Our site aims to be a resource for people interested in developing and sustaining a Solution-Focused Brief Approach (SFBA) in their practice, whether that be with individuals, groups, teams, organisations. We are keen to contribute to developing communities of SFBA practitioners, both in our local areas and internationally. NEW!! A THREE MODULE
LEARNING OPPORTUNITY
? Are you looking for more than just an introductory course in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) ?
? Would you like to improve your competency in SFBT and feel more confident in what you offer your clients ?
? Would you like to review and refresh your knowledge and skills in SFBT, in the light of the explosion of research and publications since 2000?
Module 1: "SFBT is Simple But Not Easy"
Thurs 8 & Fri 9 May 2008 - Sydney CBD
Learn to perceive and think in ways that help you to see possibilities, notice patterns, and to question the assumption that solutions and problems are necessarily connected.
This module focuses on perceiving and thinking in an SFBT way, and will skill you in how to KEEP doing this even when the going gets tough or clients face crises.
This module is suitable for newcomers to Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and for experienced SFBT practitioners who wish to update, refresh and refine their knowledge and skills (and for those who want to unlearn bad habits they have slipped into!).
Note: Completion of Module 1 or equivalent provides entry to Modules 2 and/or 3
Module 2: "SFBT - Respond and Act"
Thurs 7 & Fri 8 August 2008 - Sydney CBD
Gain confidence in the skillful application of the SFBT approach to therapy and counselling. Brush up your skills, learn more about what research tells us works and therefore what we should do more of, practise skills and expand your toolbox in an environment of curiosity, exploration and capacity-developing feedback.
Note: Module 1 or equivalent is necessary before attending this Module.
Module 3: "SFBT - Sustaining Practice"
Mon 22 & Tues 23 Sept 2008 - Sydney CBD
Take the opportunity to review and improve your SFBT knowledge and skills by participating in practice, supervision and coaching activities. Reflect on, and update your SFBT practice in relation to international and local research and developments.
Participants are encouraged to bring examples from their work (with the necessary client and agency permissions). Advanced practice activities will be offered with a focus on developing your own style while remaining within the principles, values and practices of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.
Note: Module 1 or equivalent is necessary before attending this Module.

SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHT -
"We cannot solve our problems with the same kind of thinking that we used when we noticed them" - adapted from Albert Einstein
Being Brief is about beginnings - not about hurrying
Q: What needs to happen for things to begin to go in the desired direction?
Q: What needs to happen to give you a glimpse of a more hopeful future?
Q: How will we know that what we are doing together is on track for where you want to head?
A Solution-Focused stance is about describing what we want to work towards - a vision of a future without the problem - not about analysing what we want to move away from
Q: Let's suppose this problem is resolved, what will you be doing then?
Q: When things have improved, how will things be different?
Q: Even if this problem continues to exist, how will you know you're coping?
"There is not necessarily a logical connection between the problem and the solution" - adapted from Steve de Shazer
